The ‘Elegant Stinkhorns’ has decided that my mulched flower bed is a fantastic place to take up residence. I would disagree. It has a foul, putrid aroma and looks quite noxious.
The National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms states that their season is July-September and their range is Quebec to Florida and west to the great lakes.
Seems this fetid wood debris dweller is making an appearance two months early.
I’ve never seen their like in western central Indiana before.
