Brand recognition

I went to my son’s 5th grade class today and spoke about being a graphic designer. It was career week at his school. I spoke on how most computer related games and websites required a graphic designer’s skills. I Also talked to them about brand recognition, print, and typography. Amazing how well mass marketing can effect a child. They recognized 10 logos that were displayed as only a portion of it- such as the wal-mart asterisk, and Taco Bell’s “bell”. They had fun during this easy test. At least they didn’t fall asleep.
I created a website for the 5th grade class according to some of their preferences.

I made a flash site for them as well using the same basic layout and links.

New Plugins

I’ve added a few new plug-ins to the site. Not all of them are working as I expected, especially the flickr plug in/ widget. I’m still trying to tweak that one.

Here are the plug-ins I’ve installed:

1. pinterest

2. twitter feed

3. flickr stream

4. social sharing in the Jetpack function.

Basement design

While Jim’s been in Egypt, I’ve been busy in our basement. Here are a few of my favorite artworks. The two orange prints are from House Industries. They actually came as packing paper, wrapped around a larger print I had ordered of a bike rider in the snow. These hand pulled prints are more like wrapping paper, but I loved them so much- I decided to frame them and out them on the wall.
